Fife's Finest Race Night - Friday 8th August @ Styx

FIFE'S FINEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR DANCE 2006/07

Our first ever 'Player of the Year Dance' took place on Saturday 19th May 2007 in The Abbey, Kirkcaldy and was an astounding success! Over 100 people attended the event in what turned out to be a sellout - not bad four our first one!

The event was a chance for us to celebrate a successful season for Fife's Finest in what was our first year as an 'official' supporters club, a condition of our entry to the Raith Forum and appointment of a board rep.

The night was not only a chance to reward our own RRFC Player of the Year , but to honour some of Raith's past and greatest ever players, as well as rewarding our own guys for their terrific efforts throughout last season.

The overwhelming vote for Player of the Year went to goalkeeper Chris Fahey who was in attendance, and was certainly doing 'the bouncy' as he enjoyed hospitality from the lads and a beer or two. Chris received a trophy and commemorative wine glass, as well as his name being enscribed on a a shield which is to be kept in the boardroom at Stark's Park, to be updated annually.

Most Improved Player was Todd Lumsden, who unfortunately couldn't make it however a presentation was made to him before Raiths playoff match against Stirling Albion in front of 3000 fans.

Todd also received a commemorative wine glass enscribed with the club badge and acclamation of his award.

In attendance was Raith legend Ernie Till who received a Lifetime Achievement award on behalf of Fife's Finest and the RRFC Former Players Association. Ernie played for the Rovers during the war and is the oldest living former Raith Player. Despite his age, he could still should some of the young lads a thing or two - on the field and at the bar - and entertained us with a story not fit to be repeated online about a visit to a brothel (dirty dawg!).

Former Raith defender Ronnie Coyle, who played in the famous league-winning teams of the early 90's, also received an award as a thanks for his effort throughout his playing career.

The event also honoured our own lads 'achievements' throughout the course of the season.

Congratulations go to Blair Thomson who received the hotly contested 'Drunk of the Year' award. Thommo, for once, was sober enough to come and collect his award and it was certainly a strange sight to see him standing upright after 10pm on a Saturday!

It is a great testament to Blair that he be voted biggest drunk when up against the likes of Ryan, Lennon, Steesh, Squire, Stelios, Chubby, Goblin, Smithy etc., so that award really is saying something!

Other awards included Worst Singer, won by Stelios, Best Fancy Dress (Chubby) and Worst Dancer, which went to Lennon. The Worst Dancer award was such a dead-cert we didn't even bother voting for it! And if you don't believe me, check out Lennons dedicated site!

 Worst Singer - Stelios

 Best Fancy Dress - Chubby

 Worst Dancer - Lennon

The awards ceremony in full:
Entertainment on the night was provided by Andy Chung, a Disco and, of course, Lennon's dancing although there was maybe no need for Stelios to show why he was voted Worst Singer - a point backed up by Raith Chairman Dave Sommerville in an email message to the club.

 'oops upside your head!'

Many of our sponsors donated raffle prizes and our thanks go to the Chicken Shop, Styx, Albion Bar, Pancake Place and Rovers International Supporters Club and our thanks go to them. Hopefully Kenny Armour will enjoy the Power Rangers outfit he won! Iain Aitken somehow contirved to get hold of both the singed jersey (won by his girlfriend Ashley) and the enscribed glasses on offer!

An auction of a Rovers top signed by the league & cup winning side of '94/95 was won by Daz at £335, which will go towards our sponsored youth team St John's '94.

All in all, a fantastic event, well organised and really shows how far we have come from being a busload of drunks to.......well, a whole pubfull of drunks! Seriously though, a great night with a lot to offer those who attended, and hopefully the first of many! Especially if Chris Fahey and the former players have anything to do with it!

Thanks to everyone who attended and who made the night possible, and best wishes to RRFC and Fife's Finest for season 2007/08!

Oh aye, and a massive thanks to Chris Fahey and the boys for almost killing our worst dancer, Lennon! We know he's bad, but he's not that bad!

What a near miss!
