CLYDE 0 RAITH 3 - 7/8/07

Report by Allan Traynor

Fuck me! That's the best way to sum this one up in 2 words!

Like most Raith fans in recent years, little hope is carried when it comes to cup competitions given our recent record and in particular our record against Clyde. Last time we met Clyde in a cup tournament, Raith were in the 1st Division and 2nd Division Clyde trounced us 4-0 at Starks. A chance for revenge? Well the 500 or so travelling supporters, bouyed by Raiths opening day victory at Airdrie obviously thought so!

A sunny night and good fortune smiled on Raith this night as Clyde were absolutely pish, and Rovers immense! It certainly didn't look like a 2nd Division team versus a 1st, more like an SPL versus a 1st! Bizarre segregation meant the Raith fans being seated in the home end of the stadium with the 'home' fans housed in the away section. Probably because the crowd was only just over 800, and the travelling support made up about half of that.

A small selection of Clyde fans then thought it would be fun to sit in the Raith end and try and noise us up, with the polis and stewards doing absolutely hee-haw about it. But given that they were happy to let us stand for 90 minutes, can't really complain!

As usual, the lads were in good voice with constant singing throughout in support of the team, and barrating the home team/fans/manager/subsnin the usual friendly manner which opposing team look forward to on our visits. 20 or so minutes into the match, Borris whips in a cross to which Smithy remarks "that's fucking poor!" right as Tod heads it into the net!

Better was to come in the second half with an absolutely sensational goal from Carcary, taking on several Clyde players on the wing, cutting inside and firing one straight into the top corner from 20 yards!

And that was that, with Weir's goal just taking the piss as the home fans left the ground but not before barrating their manager first!

More of the same the rest of the season please!
