CHAMPIONSHIP PARTY 2009
Saturday 9th May 2009 saw Raith Rovers lift the 2nd division trophy, and Fife's Finest made sure the day was celebrated in style with our annual end of season party and awards night.
The celebrations kicked off at lunchtime, with Dennis Alexander from the band Crooked Jack performing a medley of classic Rovers' songs to warm the crowd up and kick of the title party, before the Rovers faithful moved to Stark's Park to see their heroes lift the cup.
After the match, DV8 was the venue for a 60's-themed night with live music from The Falcons providing a backdrop to our player of the year awards. This year saw Graham Weir winning the Player of the Year 2008/09 award, presented by Steesh.
Our annual 'Legend' award was presented to To Houston for service to the club in his playing days, and the 'Lifetime Achievement' award presented to David Sinclair in recognition of his achiements at Raith, including 3 trophies and captianing the side that led 1-0 against Bayern Munich.
Our first ever 'Silly Cunt' award was presented to Daz McGregor for, amongst other things, falling in the sea when going for a pish at the harbour in Ayr, and for breaking his foot kicking a billboard in frustration at Arbroath - and not finding out until the next day. A pair of armbands and googles were presented by (our) Sinky for his efforts.
The big award, of course, was the highly competitive 'Worst Drunk' award, which was a 2-horse race won by a single vote by Thommo for the second time in 2 years. Thommo was presented with an engraved hipflask - as if he needs it!
A great crowd filled DV8, in 60s fancy dress and Rovers gear, and ensured the place was bouncing with Rovers songs and celebrations into the early hours, and some of the Rovers first team came along to join in the celebrations. A signed Rovers top from the 96/97 premier league season was also auctioned off to Styx for £275, to be donated to Cancer Research.
A massive thanks to everyone who came along and made it a great night, the former players, current players and an extra special thanks to Mario, Scott, Grant and all the staff at DV8 for throwing a fantastic party for us.
